چکیده

This study was to estimate the GCA of the parents and SCA considered for the development of high yielding and better quality cultivars. Eleven genotypes and 28 F1 hybrids obtained by crossing 4 lines and 7 testers in line X tester mating system were sown in randomized complete block design. L X T analysis revealed significant GCA and SCA effects for all the traits except earliness. Among the parents: MCU 12 for number of bolls per plant, boll weight, seed cotton yield per plant, F 1861 for seed cotton yield and number of bolls per plant, SOCC 17 for earliness, SURABHI for number of sympodia and TCH 1641 for ginning outturn and lint index with high GCA. Parent F 776 and F1861 were good combiners for fibre quality traits. The high yielding quality hybrids were deducted with significant SCA effects for seed cotton yield and fibre characteristics.

Estimation of Combining Ability and Gene Effects in Forage Maize (Zea mays L.) Using Line × Tester Crosses

Abstract Determination of gene effects and combining abilities is a critical stage in maize hybrid breeding. In the present study, 20 S6 lines as female and three S6 inbred lines (K18, K19 and K1264/5-1) as tester were crossed and the resulting  test cross progenies were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications in 2008. During the growing period, several agronomi...

Genome‐wide association study discovered genetic variation and candidate genes of fibre quality traits in Gossypium hirsutum L.

Genetic improvement of fibre quality is one of the main breeding goals for the upland cotton, Gossypium hirsutum, but there are difficulties with precise selection of traits. Therefore, it is important to improve the understanding of the genetic basis of phenotypic variation. In this study, we conducted phenotyping and genetic variation analyses of 719 diverse accessions of upland cotton based ...

Combining Ability Estimates for Yield Some Traits in Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) by Line×Tester

12 single crosses (F1) achieved by combining four testers and three commercial lines of tomato were evaluated for their response to water deficit stress and the combining ability of yield and some yield components. The layout was split plots according to randomized complete block design with three replications and three irrigation levels (FC, 60%FC and 40%FC). Crossing among lines and test...

Breeding Potential of Introgression Lines Developed from Interspecific Crossing between Upland Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) and Gossypium barbadense: Heterosis, Combining Ability and Genetic Effects

Upland cotton (Gossypium hirstum L.), which produces more than 95% of the world natural cotton fibers, has a narrow genetic base which hinders progress in cotton breeding. Introducing germplasm from exotic sources especially from another cultivated tetraploid G. barbadense L. can broaden the genetic base of Upland cotton. However, the breeding potential of introgression lines (ILs) in Upland co...
